Reflection to MCA

Last Wednesday, our art class got a chance to visit the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA). The weather was nice that day. The sun was shining brightly and the temperature was really proper for a field trip. As soon as we got there by 147 bus and a short distance of walking, I noticed that the building was very much like a large old leather box. Maybe the building was using the so-called modern style, I thought, in order to fit the contemporary art works inside. There was also a sculpture of three or four human naked, with strange poses standing on the left side of the stairways towards the front gate. Talking to the exhibitions inside, Jenny Holzer’s text works impressed me the most. It was not only because of the new medium she used, but also the amazing effects the art works offered. They made audience stop to look at them for a long time and think of something; meanwhile the audience becomes a part of the art works. The reactions of audience are varied and sometimes make them notice what’s inside their brains by reading the flashing lines on the screen and relating the words to their own experience. Contemporary art is kind of abstractive and hard to understand completely, but it also allows space for audience to have their personal views and ideas about the art works. That is really joyful and can be regarded as a higher level of art I think.

dairy #4

Today we are going on a field trip to a museum. I am excited about it. It remind me of last week we art class went to the Culture Center. Although i had been there before for the music festival, the building looked different in the day and night. I was amazed by the architecture once again and the nice view from the window upstairs. Also, we visited the mural exhibition, the photography of Chicago exhibition, the creative furniture and another photography exhibition. I enjoyed most of the works diaplaying there, yet the furniture design impressed me the most. I like the cup with two tops and the light according to the tale of sheep and wolf. I am looking forward to the field trip this time!

I was doing shopping the afternoon because i didn't get enough clothes and shoes for winter. Some of the T-shirt on sale made me think of one of my friends who had tried to paint on white T-shirt himself and sell it for money. He is really a brilliant guy. All his images on the T-shirt he painted are beautiful. However, i didn't get one because when he finished the work i was already in the US.

dairy #2

Today, I do not have class. So I just stayed at home doing homework and make up sleeping. However, when i was cooking in the kitchen at noon, I discovered a spider web in the wall angle. It was not big but there were 3 insects caught symmetrically on it made as a triangle. Funny, right? If we slow down and take a look around, we can find art everywhere i think.

Today I went to woodfield with my friends. The decoration out of a mall impressed me the most. It was a big giraffe I saw. The way the giraffe stoop down looks friendly to people. Some little kids were playing around the scupture(if it can be called as a scupture). The giraffe was in brilliant color, and with lights shining inside. So you could see it clearly in far distance. It was attractive, especially to young people. Art can be used in commercial way, that's what i got.

Assignment #2:Journal of Art Tour

I went on a art tour in the Loop with my friends last week, and had a lot of fun. This is an assignment of my art class. When I first time heard the project, I was upset. Because I am really a newcomer here, have few friends, no relatives. Walking around downtown in such a big city without getting lost is almost impossible for me. I also do not know the location and how to take a vehicle. But at last I went there with Elsa, a student in hybird class with me, she had been here for over 2 years. I really appreciated her help in finding the art works. After I went several places, I turned out to fall in love with such interesting interactive homework. I could see arts just outdoor around me and they are all free! I even could walk into an art work, like the Agora-Magdalena Abakanowicz, pretenting I am a part of it. That is attractive. I think in this way, there would be more fans of art in an urban city, even though many of the residents do not pay much attention to the great art around them appearing as an ordinary scene of their normal daily life. But I am pretty sure that they will put an eye on it someday.
The introduct audio is very nice, by the way, with a gentle voice, relaxing and happy music and helpful words while visiting.
